About
The Braun SK5, also known as the "Hochkant-Schneewittchensarg" or "Vertical Snow White's Coffin," was another record player designed by Dieter Rams for Braun. It was released in 1958, two years after the SK4.
Like the SK4, the SK5 was a combination of a record player, a radio, and an amplifier in one device. However, unlike the SK4, the SK5 was designed to be placed vertically, which was a unique feature at the time. The vertical design was intended to save space and make the device more compact, which was an important consideration for many consumers in the 1950s.
The design of the SK5 was also minimalist and functional, with a focus on simplicity and ease of use. The control buttons were located at the front of the device and were easy to access. The device was made of Perspex, aluminum, and wood, and had a sleek, modern appearance that was typical of Braun products of that era.
Although the SK5 was not as popular as the SK4, it was still an important design in the history of consumer electronics. Its vertical design and minimalist aesthetic were influential and inspired many later designs.
